It’s been a while since we last rapped. Sorry for the delay but things got in the way. I’m please to let you know that the Jowls tape is finished. Sadly, there was a gaf in the order so the production wasn’t done before their tour. I was hoping to ride those coattails down to Austin. Bummer. Fuck it.

The Strawberry Heritage tape is finished. John has a design for the artwork and we’re just waiting to George to review it for print.

Right now, I’m in Baltimore taking a photography course at the Defense Information School. I’ll be finishing up in May then moving to Chicago.

Touring separates bands who are serious about their music and bands that are a hobby. It takes a level of courage that most people don’t have. It says they believe in their music.

Jowls and Radiator Hospital are doing it themselves. Show your support by letting your friends know they’re playing their town. If you live in Grand Rapids and bump into these people, pass on words of encouragement. If you were thinking of making any of them a mixtape, now would be the best time to do that.

This December 1999 issue of Spin has been in the bathroom as long as I’ve lived at this apartment. I hadn’t read it before yesterday, which is surprising, because I like Beck and I use the bathroom all the time.

Here is my favorite part of the interview:

“Everything’s going upscale around here,” Beck says, scanning the manicured lawns and homes. “Except for Glenn Danzig’s house.” The horror-rocker lives in a quaintly sepulchral hacienda with a large pile of bricks out front. “He’s had that stack of bricks there for about eight years now.” Beck says. “I think it’s a statement.”

Marlee Cook-Parrot is always excited and supportive about what her brother is doing. Today she told me Radiator Hospital’s music was used in this video and featured on the USA Today website.

The video is part an art blog called Cabin Time. The theme is it’s a roaming artist residency. They go to a cabin for several days to produce art then everything that is made is featured in a gallery show. It sounds terrific.

Doctors orders. After a two-week period of nonstop banshee yodeling and provocatively strutting around the house, we realized that our little kitten was becoming a woman.

Needless to say, we were going to have none of that. Wednesday morning Todd took Delores to the vet to get her naughty bits removed. She has super mellowed out and our house has returned to normal.

We hope everyone is having the same kind of laid back and easy going Thanksgiving!

You’re favorite lo-fi indy pop song craft master Sam Cook-Parrott has sold out (or given away) the first 50 copies of Radiator Hospital’s “Nothin In My Eyes.” Lafayette Recs ordered another batch. This time they will be pro dub and ready to ship by December 22.

If you’re interested in pre-ordering a copy, it would be greatly appreciated. Not only will this guarantee that you won’t miss out, but it will help finance the production of the cassette. Kind of like an NPR pledge drive.

I’ve included a “local” option for Grand Rapids folks that can pick up their copy. You can also email me to make arrangements to get a tape. There are plenty of dark allies to make an exchange in.
